Create a role

  1. Go to Settings, Roles (/app/settings/roles) and select Add a role.
  2. Name it what you call it in the shop, like Shop foreman.
  3. Pick the built-in role it works most like. That sets the assessment benchmark and fills in sensible defaults below. A shop foreman works like a master technician; a fleet sales rep works like a service advisor.
  4. Choose the background check. Anyone who drives customer vehicles should get Driver, which adds a driving-record check.
  5. Turn on the tool inventory if new hires bring their own tools.
  6. Edit the first-week checklist: add, reorder or remove items.
  7. On the Complete plan, add a pay plan now (hourly, flat rate, salary or commission). You can add tiers and bonuses later in Pay plans.
  8. Select Create role.

Where your roles show up

  • Post a job: pick the role under Your roles, or select Post a job on the role's card. The job starts from the matching template, titled with your role name.
  • Pay plans: your roles appear at the top of the role list.
  • Offers: the role's own pay plan is suggested first.
  • Background check: the role's package runs automatically when the offer is signed.
  • Onboarding and new hires: the tool step and first-week checklist come from the role.

Retiring a role

Archiving a role hides it from new jobs and pay plans. Jobs and hires already using it keep it.
