Run a check
- Run checks after the offer is signed. Moving the candidate to Background check starts it automatically.
- The candidate gets a link to Checkr's secure page, where they give consent and enter their SSN, date of birth and license number. None of that comes to RPM Talent.
- Most checks finish in 1 to 3 business days. The candidate page shows Pending, then Clear or Consider, with a link to the full report on Checkr.
- Clear moves the candidate forward to onboarding.
If the result is Consider: FCRA adverse action
Don't reject right away
The Fair Credit Reporting Act requires specific steps before you decide not to hire someone based on a background report. Skipping them is a common source of lawsuits.
- Review the report on Checkr. Ask whether the finding is relevant to this job, how long ago it was and whether it was a conviction. Many states and cities limit what you can consider.
- If you're leaning toward not hiring, send a pre-adverse action notice from Checkr. It includes a copy of the report and the summary of rights.
- Wait at least 5 business days for the candidate to respond or dispute.
- If you still decide not to hire, send the final adverse action notice from Checkr, then move the candidate to Rejected with the reason Background check result.
